I don’t believe in charity. I believe in solidarity. Charity is so vertical. It goes from the top to the bottom. Solidarity is horizontal. It respects the other person. I have a lot to learn from other people.”
-Eduardo Galeano

MY VALUES

One of my deepest values is TRANSPARENCY.  On this page I will share my rates for various services, but I believe in full-price-payers subsidizing low-income folks so that everyone can access my services.  Please see below for more information on my sliding scale policy, and email me at amy@amyelainesmith.com to discuss a rate that works for you.

ECONOMIC JUSTICE WORK

TAX PREPARATION
$350 / single
$500 / married filing jointly

I work with a team of tax preparers to provide low-cost tax preparation services to artists in Philly and beyond.  My team charges these base rates for federal, state, and local tax filing. We give discounts to low-income folks as needed, and occasionally charge more for a complicated return. Email me with questions, or make an appointment at phillytaxprepforartists.com

FINANCIAL WELL-BEING WORKSHOPS
$200-$300 / hour of teaching

I teach financial literacy and well-being workshops to professional artists and at colleges and universities.  Topics include valuing your time and negotiating for fair pay; self-employment and entity types; budgeting and taxes; credit, debt, and long-term saving.  Workshops range from two hours to two days. My fee includes prep time. For non-local in-person workshops, I require travel and lodging reimbursement.

FINANCIAL ADVICE
Not taking on new clients at this time.

I give advice to artists and non-artists who need support, guidance, and problem-solving.  Sometimes we focus on immediate issues, other times long term planning. I prioritize working with women, trans* folks, and folks of color.

RACIAL JUSTICE WORK

CO-FACILITATION
$100 – $240 / hour
$50 – $120 / hour of prep time

I co-facilitate anti-racism and anti-oppression sessions with co-facilitators of color.  We each charge between $100 and $240 per hour of facilitation, depending on the resource level of the group or organization hiring us.  In general, each hour of facilitation requires one hour of prep time.  To acknowledge the current pay disparity in our society between white women and Black women, we charge 20% more for Black facilitators’ time than for my time. To acknowledge the ethical dilemma of white people benefiting financially from anti-racism work, I tithe to Black-led arts organizations.

ARTIST SUPPORT

BOOKKEEPING AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Not taking on new clients at this time.

I provide consulting and business management services to artists and arts organizations.  Examples include providing planning and operational support to a dance artist who is often on international tours; assisting with a leadership transition at a small dance company; setting up a chart of accounts for a theater company, etc. I prioritize working with women, trans* artists, and artists of color.

SLIDING SCALE

I want to make my services accessible to folks from a range of backgrounds.  To that end, I give discounts regularly to low-income folks and those that come from resilient communities.  Those who can pay full price for my services subsidize those who cannot. My lower rates and discounts are intended for low-income and working class folks; Black, Indigenous, and People of Color; trans* and non-binary folks; and folks with disabilities.

Because I am no longer associated with a non-profit, people with means can support my work by paying full price for my services, recommending my services to other individuals and organizations that can pay full price, or giving an intentional Subsidy Gift (not tax-deductible).
